My prayer for you

Good Morning Community Lutheran,

Today marks my first week as your pastor.
It has been a great week and I am grateful for all the ways you have welcomed me and welcomed Marin, Kari, and Kristofer.
Remember, each day I am praying for you.
I want you to know what is at the very heart of my prayers for you.
I commit to you that I will pray each day
… that God will strengthen you in your inner being through the power of the Holy Spirit
… that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith
… and through Christ, that you are being rooted and grounded in love

See you Sunday!

Confirmation Class Serving Our Community

On March 5, a group of confirmation students visited the Jessie Rees Foundation in RSM to pack Joy Jars and deliver a huge box of toys donated by the congregation.  Our students worked really hard packing the jars, which go to kids fighting cancer and other life-changing diseases.

The confirmation students truly set a great example for community outreach at CLC and are a special part of the congregational efforts to give back in our community.  We appreciate their efforts and look forward to catching them doing more great things at CLC and in the community.  A very special thanks also goes to Tracy Cantin, Cymantha Atkinson and the other parents who attended with our confirmation class.

To learn more about the Jessie Rees Foundation and the great work they are doing to help children with cancer, please visit their website at www.negu.org.   The foundation's mission is to Encourage kids fighting cancer to “NEVER EVER GIVE UP”.  At CLC we support their mission with our hopes, prayers and volunteerism.

First Sunday

Today Community Lutheran Church celebrated its first Sunday worship services with our new Pastor, Marty Jacobson. After a wonderful service we enjoyed the fellowship of our congregation on the patio as we welcomed Pastor Marty to his new call.

Here are some pictures from the day in case you couldn't make it today.

A Message From Pastor Marty

Dear Members and Friends of Community Lutheran Church,

In the book of Acts when church leaders described how God prompted them and leads them in making decisions they used this remarkable phrase, “It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us.” So I am excited to share with you that in my conversations with your Call Committee I sensed the Holy Spirit leading us and guiding us. I was inspired by their faithfulness and their God-given joy in serving. I loved hearing them share stories about what Community Lutheran means to them personally. I was encouraged to see their passion for the mission Christ has given us:
  •  to build up the community of faith through our commitment to prayer, growing in God’s Word, regularly gathering to worship the Lord, sharing our gifts, and ministering to each other in times of need
  • and to reach out beyond Sunday morning as we grow in walking with the Lord in our families and friendships, in our schools and daily work, in our acts of service, and in all the ways live out what it means to have Christ living within us.
I am excited to be called to serve a congregation with such a strong heart for mission. There is nothing like a community of believers who are unified in knowing that they are forgiven and beloved children of God, saved by Grace, and filled with the desire to serve God faithfully with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength. Together, God has called us to serve. And with God we can do far more than we can even imagine.

In the weeks to come, I look forward to getting to know you and hearing your stories. Stop by when you have the chance; my office door is open. My commitment to you as your pastor is to preach and teach God’s Word faithfully and to walk with you as a close companion in the way of the cross, available for counsel and encouragement.

Serving together with you in Christ,

Pastor Marty

New Beginnings

Over the past year our congregation has been blessed with the wonderful work of our Transition Team and our Call Committee as they have guided us through the search for a new leader for our congregation. Today our journey is officially concluded as Pastor Marty Jacobson enjoys his first day as the new pastor and leader at Community Lutheran Church.

Pastor Marty was born in Colombia, South America where his parents served as missionaries. He graduated from Luther College (Decorah, Iowa) with majors in English and Religion. After college he served on a traveling youth ministry team with Lutheran Youth Encounter; and as a sidelight taste-tested donuts across a nine-state region.

Marty loves being a husband to Marin, a dad to Kari and Kristofer, and a pastor. Seeing people find the life-giving hope of knowing Christ is a true privilege and calling.

He has served congregations in Minnesota, Iowa, and most recently at Christ Lutheran in Orange.

As a family the Jacobsons enjoy the great outdoors, good movies, and family vacations. They are very thankful for all the wonderful people at Christ Lutheran and for the warmth and friendship of so many people in that congregation. They are also very excited about the opportunity to join in the spiritual journey of Community Lutheran and to bring their love and joy to our church.

This Sunday Pastor Marty will lead our congregation in worship. We hope to see you at one of the two services!
